Sport and Entertainment

Cloisters’ Sports and Entertainment Team are sought out for their experience in producing ground-breaking, creative solutions to complex issues arising as law continues to develop in the sports industry, particularly in relation to equality and discrimination matters.

Our clients include sporting bodies, clubs and teams and individuals, for whom Cloisters is the ‘go to’ set for advice on the full breadth of equality issues such as race and sex, disability, gender and differences in sex development (DSD), as well as on inclusion in sport and positive action.

We act variously for Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) football clubs and players from across all leagues up to and including the Premier League, as well as for a diverse range of sports bodies and personalities in contractual and regulatory disputes as well as in employment, discrimination and human rights claims.  We act in major domestic and international forums.

We handle among some of the highest profile matters in the sports world, such as key manager dismissals, international and domestic discrimination and human rights claims, as well as employment claims, including worker status issues and workplace rights in the sporting arena. We also are experienced in dealing with contract claim cases relating to players and managers. Members of our team also handle other commercial agreements such as investors in third party rights.

Cloisters’ barristers bring critical crossover perspective to sports law, bringing with them leading expertise in employment, EU and international law, investigations and human rights as well as commercial law.

Our media expertise includes defamation, copyright, and passing off. As well as acting for a number of media clients, we also act as libel readers and advisers for national newspapers and magazines.
